Overview
This article provides information on finding transfers/payments and understanding the details available on the payments page in the Finix dashboard.
Preconditions
The following conditions must be met before starting on the instructional steps below:
- Your facility must be using foreUP Payments as your integrated credit card processor
- You must have access to the Finix dashboard (if you do not have access, please contact the foreUP Payments Support Team at payments@foreup.com)
Important Information
- Payments in the Finix dashboard will interchangeably be referred to as "transfers" or "payments"
- All payment ID's start with "TR" (e.g.: TR4Fda9PgdQAvbX5ya4DqKLH)
- The time stamp on a payment in the Finix dashboard represents when the initial authorization was captured via foreUP's capture tool, which runs every night. The payment time stamp will NOT match the time stamp on the foreUP sale transaction. You will need to view the date and time stamp of the transaction at the authorization stage to match the sale's date and time stamp in foreUP. See the following article for more information on the authorization stage: How to View and Understand Authorizations in Finix
- Payments are the second step in the life cycle of a credit card transaction with foreUP Payments (see the following article to understand the full life cycle of credit card transactions: Understanding the Lifecycle of a Credit Card Sale with foreUP Payments)
How to Find Payments in Finix
Follow the below steps to find payments in Finix:
- Log into the Finix Dashboard
- Once logged in, click on the Transactions dropdown on the left column and select Payments
- You can adjust the date range and filters to fit your needs
- Once you click on a payment from the list, a side panel on the right will pop up, providing more details regarding the payment. To view the payment details in a separate tab, click View All Details in the top right of the side panel.
If you already have the payment ID, you can paste that ID in the ID Search field at the top left of the Finix Dashboard and hit Enter to pull up that payment.
Understanding the Payment Details
The payment details page in the Finix dashboard has a lot of great information. The below section will cover the following parts of this page:
- Top Line Information
- Transaction Flow
- Payment Details
- Payment Instrument
- Associated Fees
- Refunds
- Disputes
Top Line Information
The information located at the top of the payment details page provides the following information:
- Amount: This will tell you the amount of the credit card transaction was captured at
- ID: If you hover over the ID box, it will show you the payment ID. If you click on that box, it will copy the payment ID to your clipboard
-
Trace ID: If you hover over the Trace ID box, it will show you the trace ID number (all trace ID's start with "FNX"). If you click on that box, it will copy the trace ID to your clipboard. The trace ID can be a valuable ID for a couple of reasons:
- The trace ID is what links the payment and authorization stage together (see the following article to understand the full life cycle of credit card transactions: Understanding the Lifecycle of a Credit Card Sale with foreUP Payments)
- If you copy and paste a trace ID in the ID Search field located at the top left of the Finix dashboard, you will get a dropdown that allows you to select either the Authroization or Transfer (see the screenshot below for an example)
- The trace ID is what the Payments Support Team will use in the subject line of a dispute email informing you of a dispute a cardholder has filed against your facility (see the following article for more information regarding disputes: A Guide to Credit Card Disputes)
- State: The state will be "Succeeded" or "Failed." A failed payment may be due to the following: insufficient funds, exceeds max transaction, a lapse in system communication, or an unlinked refund attempt canceled. A successful payment should correlate to a completed sale in foreUP
- Created On: The time stamp on a payment in the Finix dashboard represents when the initial authorization was captured via foreUP's capture tool, which runs every night.
- Type: This will show either "Card Present" or "Card Not Present"
- Buyer Payment Instruments: This will provide the card details such as the last four and cardholder name (if available)
Transaction Flow
The transaction flow section of the payment page will tell you what stage the transaction is currently at, from payment to settlement (see the following article to understand the full life cycle of credit card transactions: Understanding the Lifecycle of a Credit Card Sale with foreUP Payments)
Payment Details
The processor is the most relevant piece of data in this section of the payment details page. The processor will tell you which processing rail the credit card transaction was processed through. The two processing rails used with foreUP Payments are VANTIV for card-present transactions and LITLE for card-not-present transitions.
Understanding VANTIV and LITLE becomes more important in understanding the settlement stage of the life cycle of a credit card transaction, as well as understanding the foreUP Payments funding schedule. See the following two articles for more information: How to View and Understand Settlements in Finix and Understanding the foreUP Payments Funding Schedule
Payment Instruments
The payment instrument section of the authorization page will provide the following information:
- Name: This will be the name of the cardholder, if available
- Type: This will show either "Card Present" or "Card Not Present"
- Card Brand: This will be Visa, Mastercard, Discover, American Express, etc.
- Card Type: This will be Credit, Debit, Prepaid, HSA/FSA, etc.
- Mask Number: This will contain the credit card BIN number and the last four
- Expiration Date: This will be the expiration of the credit card
Associated Fees
foreUP Payments uses an interchange cost-plus (IC+) model (not a flat-rate model) for credit card processing fees. The Associated Fees section will give you a breakdown of all the credit card fees (interchange, fixed, assessment, risk, ancillary, VISA/MC/DCVR/AMEX assessment, etc.) assessed on the individual payment.
For more information on understanding how interchange cost-plus fees are assessed, please see the following article: Understanding the Interchange Cost-Plus Model for Credit Card Processing
Refunds
You will see the refund information in this section if a refund has been issued for a payment.
Disputes
You will see the dispute information in this section if a cardholder has filed a dispute on a transaction. See the following article for more information regarding credit card disputes with foreUP Payments: A Guide to Credit Card Disputes
FAQ
Q: If I am looking at a payment's date and time stamp in Finix, how do I correlate that to a sale in foreUP?
A: The time stamp on a payment in the Finix dashboard represents when the initial authorization was captured via foreUP's capture tool, which runs every night. The payment time stamp will NOT match the time stamp on the foreUP sale transaction. You will need to view the time stamp of the transaction at the authorization stage to match the sale's time stamp in foreUP by clicking on the Trace ID box at the top of the payment page to copy the trace ID to your clipboard. You will then paste the trace ID in the ID Search field at the top left of the Finix dashboard and hit Enter. You will then get a dropdown where you can select the Authorization to be brought to the authorization details page in Finix. The date and time stamp found on the authorization page will correlate to the date and time stamp of the sale in foreUP (see the following article for more information on the authorization stage: How to View and Understand Authorizations in Finix)
