Overview
This article covers what to do if foreUP is not loading for you. We can definitely understand how frustrating it can be to have your business come to a screeching halt when the internet drops or a site does not work. We work hard on our side to ensure that our site experiences the least amount of outages possible so as to keep your business running smoothly.
In the event that your course can not access our site or services, however, here are some troubleshooting steps to follow below.
IF NO SITE IS LOADING OR IF SOME SITES ARE LOADING SPORADICALLY
It may be that your entire internet is down. What to do if so:
- Reset your router. Find your router and turn it off, then unplug it from the power source for at least 30 seconds (to let the capacitors discharge and clear out any corrupt memory from the system). Once done, then plug it back in. Wait a minute or two for the router to reboot.
- Check cable connections. Even if you're running a wireless network system (Wi-Fi), you will still have some network cables running somewhere. Even if it's just cables running from the modem to the router or to other switches. In any case, if you don't know what you're looking for it's best to find your router and work backwards from there. If you still can not find what you're looking for, contact your IT department for further help.
- Contact your IT department. (regardless of which step you are in, having an IT professional on call to help will always be the best solution if you can do so).
- Contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP). They may be having an outage on their end.
IF foreUP IS THE ONLY SITE NOT LOADING
This can be a result of a few things. Here are some things to try. (Please note that some of these things are heavily IT related and NOT supported by foreUP support. If foreUP is NOT currently experiencing an outage and you still can't access our site, an IT professional would be the best point of contact. All steps after checking the STATUS PAGE fall into the realm of your: network / computer settings / ISP. All of these steps are completed from the course side by you or your IT professional)
- Try checking our STATUS PAGE to ensure we are not having an outage.
You can also contact support so that we can confirm this - in case we have not updated our page just yet. Another easy thing to knock out would be try loading up foreupsoftware.com from your phone (not on Wi-Fi, while using mobile data) to see if your network is having issues. If it loads up on your phone, it would be device/network related. - Check your DNS settings (DNS = Domain Name System). In short, whenever you type in "foreupsoftware.com" into your browser, your network has to resolve that string of text into an IP address. If the DNS that you are using resolves our site to the wrong IP address, it can cause your page never to load foreUP. Though other sites may be working. Usually, this is because the DNS server you are using is not resolving the correct IP address to access our servers.
- To view your DNS settings follow these steps if you're using Windows 10 / 11:
- Hit your Windows key on your keyboard, in the new search bar, type in Network & Internet Settings. You should see a part on the new window that shows if you're using Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Based on which one you're using, click on the corresponding button below:
- After that scroll down and look for "DNS server assignment" -- if your course is not using a custom DNS set up by your IT professionals, then this will most likely just say "Automatic (DHCP)" If you're not using a custom DNS server. Your ISP will provide one. In some cases, your ISP's IP address for our site may not be correct. To test this, try changing your DNS settings. This can be done easily by clicking on "Edit" and then following the set up below:
- (The 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.8.4 are Google's free to use public DNS server. We recommend you use these settings anyways if you use Stripe).
- Once you do this, hit Save and then try to go to foreupsoftware.com
- Hit your Windows key on your keyboard, in the new search bar, type in Network & Internet Settings. You should see a part on the new window that shows if you're using Ethernet or Wi-Fi. Based on which one you're using, click on the corresponding button below:
- To view your DNS settings follow these steps if you're using Windows 10 / 11:
- Check your Proxy / VPN settings. What is a Proxy Server and VPN (Virtual Private Network)? They are basically intermediaries between your network and the internet. They will monitor traffic in between your router and the internet. They can be used for network security and content moderation.
However, in this instance, they can cause problems for your course if the Proxy server for example is for some reason flagging / not allowing traffic to foreupsoftware.com - in this case, we would recommend seeking out your IT professional to take a look at these.
One easy way to check if your course is running a proxy server on your terminals is, if you're on Windows, hit the Windows key on your keyboard and type in Proxy Setting and you can see whether it's turned on or off. If it's on, you may have a proxy IP address that your traffic is routing to. Don't change these settings without consulting your IT professional first!
You can repeat the same steps above and search for "VPN Setting" to see if you have a VPN. If you don't, windows may say "Add VPN" here. You may also be using a VPN program on your machines that may not show up here however, so again it's important to contact your IT professional to see what steps you can take. - Contact your IT department to check your network firewalls and/or analyze the traffic going from your router to the foreupsoftware.com domain. In some cases, firewalls may be blocking the return traffic which can cause the site not to load.
- Contact your ISP to ensure there are no blocks to foreupsoftware.com and subsequent domains. Let them know that we are not having an outage and that your course can not access this site from your network.
As stated above, if you can not access our site, please view our STATUS PAGE. If you have confirmed there are no foreUP outages, please reach out to your IT department professionals to assist you with further network troubleshooting. Please also reach out to your Internet Service Provider (ISP) to ensure there is no outage going on from their end.
