Overview
Setting up the F&B inventory is different than other inventory item types because you will define where the item will live on your F&B menu and how it will print to the kitchen. This article explains how to set up Food & Beverage Inventory/Menu Items, and how they correspond with the Food & Beverage module layout.
Preconditions:
Preconditions are the necessary settings, permissions, and items created in your software to allow the feature to work.

Access to the following modules:
- Inventory.
- Food & Beverage.
- Employee Permission to create inventory items.
Steps:
Follow the below steps to setup Food & Beverage inventory items:
- Using the top-left module drop-down menu, go to Inventory and select the "Food & Bev" item tab.
- Click on "+New F&B Item".
- On the Details tab, enter all required and applicable information into the applicable fields (Required fields are indicated by a red asterisk):

- Item Name - The name of the item as it will appear in reporting and on receipts.
- Department - The revenue reporting department on the item for reporting purposes. (Examples: "F&B", "Restaurant", etc.)
- Category - The revenue reporting category on the item for reporting purposes. (Examples: "Food", "Alcohol", "Non Alcoholic Beverages", etc.)
- Subcategory - The revenue reporting subcategory on the item for reporting purposes. (Examples: "Sandwiches", "Burgers", "Hot Drinks", "Breakfast", etc.)
- GL Code - If you use a General Ledger code, enter that here.
- UPC# - The UPC/SKU/Item Number that the item will be searchable and scannable by.
- Additional UPC's - If the item has more than one UPC, enter additional UPC's that the item can be identified by here.
- Service Fees -
- Customer Groups - If you have a created customer group that receives a "Cost Plus Discount" on the item, select the customer group that receives the discount on this item here.
- Active - Toggle On if you currently sell an item. If you don't currently sell an item, toggle it as inactive to prevent it from being searchable and sold in the POS.
- Quantity - The amount of the item you have in stock. (NOTE: This can be marked "Unlimited" if you don't track the quantity of an item (Example: Non stock items such as range balls))
- Reorder Level - You will receive a warning message when the quantity drops below the number entered here. (NOTE: If an item is marked as "Unlimited", this will be greyed out.
- Supplier - The supplier of the item. (Note: This can be left as "None")
- Unit Price - The selling price of the item. (NOTE: The amount the customer pays)
- Unit Cost - The cost price of the item. (NOTE: The amount the operator buys the item for)
- Max Discount - The maximum discount percentage that can be entered when selling an item in the POS without Manager approval. (NOTE: Enter whole numbers only. (Example: 20% discount entered as "20.00" not "0.20")(Best Practice: Your max discount should protect all items from being sold for at least less than the Unit Cost.
- Taxable Status - This can be set to "Default", "Always Tax", or "Never Tax". (NOTE: It is rare to see an item set to "Always Tax". If a customer is "Non-Taxable" and they are sold an item that is set to "Always Tax", the customer will be taxed. Most courses set most items to "Default.)
- Unit Price Includes Tax - Sales tax will be calculated to bring the final sales price, including tax, to the "Unit Price". (NOTE: Leave unchecked if tax is added on top of the Unit Price)

Tax Rate Name -
- Enter the Tax Name that will apply to the item and show up on receipts.
- Enter the Percentage the tax will be charged at.
- Additional tax rates can be added by clicking "New Tax Rate"

- On the F&B Options tab, enter all required and applicable information into the applicable fields (Required fields are indicated by a red asterisk):

- Menu Category - This denotes where the item will show up on the menu in the F&B module when your employees are selling an item.
- Menu Subcategory - This denotes which sub-button the item will show up in on the menu in the F&B module. Subcategory buttons can be found under the Items Menu Category button in the F&B module menu.
- Button Color - Customize the color of the button on the F&B module menu by choosing a color here.
- Item is a Side Dish - Checking this box will designate the item as a "Side". (NOTE: If an item is a side dish, it can not have additional sides attached to it.
- Number of Sides - Indicates the number of sides that will be allowed to be selected when choosing sides for the ordered item.
- Includes Soup or Salad - Indicates on the "Kitchen Receipt" if the daily soup or salad was selected with the ordered item.
- Do Not Print to Kitchen - Checking this box will prevent an item from ever being printed on a "Kitchen Receipt".
- Do Not Print On Customer Receipt - Checking this box will make it so the item does not show up on a customers receipt.
- Printer Groups - Attach printer groups here to assign which printer/printers an item will print to. (Example: Drinks to a "Bar" printer group and Food to a "Hot" or "Cold" printer group)
- Print Priority - The order in which the item will appear on the "Kitchen Receipt"
- Meal Course - Here you can assign the item to an already created "Meal Course". This makes it helpful to send or "fire" specific groups of items to the kitchen first. (Example: "Drinks", "Appetizers", "Entrees", "Deserts", etc.)

- On the Modifiers tab, select any applicable modifiers that you have already created to the item using the drop-down menu to view already created modifiers and clicking on the modifier. (NOTE: See FAQ for more information about creating Modifiers)
- On the Sides tab, toggle on any applicable sides that you have already created to the item and fill out the applicable information. (NOTE: See FAQ for more information about creating Sides):

- Active - Toggle on any already created sides that will be an available side option when ordering the item you are creating.
- Name - The name of Side items already created as a side that are available to be included with other items as a side.
- Set as Default - Select a side option to be preselected when ordering an item in the F&B module menu. (OPTIONAL)
- Upgrade Price - Set the amount it will cost to choose a side when ordered with the item being created.

- After all required and applicable information has been entered for a new F&B item click "Save Changes"
