Overview:
Creating and/or selling a Service Fee is a great way to report certain fees that a course accounts for. This article will explain how to set them up in the Inventory Module.
Preconditions:
Preconditions are the necessary settings, permissions, and items created in your software to allow the feature to work.
- Access to the Inventory Module
Steps:
Follow the below steps to create a Service Fee using the Inventory Module:
1. Go to "Inventory".
2. Click the "Service Fees" section at the top.
3. Click the "New Service Fee" button on the right.
4. Fill in the information for the new Service Fee you're creating.

- Item Name: The name used for the item.
- Department: The revenue department for this item.
- Category: Refers to the category to be used for reporting purposes.
- Subcategory: Subcategory for reporting purposes.
- GL Code: If you use a General Ledger code, insert that code here.
- Customer Groups: This is where you can attach a certain customer group if you want them to receive a discount on this item.
- Fee Amount or Fee Percentage: Here you can set the service fee amount or a percentage. If you set it as a percentage, it will automatically take whatever percent of the item it's attached to. You can also choose for the system to do whichever is more or less money for the customer.
- Taxable Status: This can be set to default, always tax, or never tax. It is rare to see an item set as "Always Tax". If a customer is non-taxable, but the item is set to Always Tax, it will tax them. Most courses have this set to default.
- Tax 1 and 2: The taxes to be applied to this item.
5. After you've filled out the required fields, click "Save Changes" in the bottom right corner.

Q: How do service fees show up on a report?
A: Similar to anything else sold through the Point of Sale, a Service Fee would show up on a Report based on the Department and Category (and Subcategory if applicable) within the inventory settings of that fee.
